Yes, All the member companies in the DMCC free zone are supposed to submit the audit report prepared by an approved auditor yearly at the time of the renewal of their license.

Yes, all the companies incorporated under the DMCC are required to conduct an audit. Every company in the DMCC free zone is required to keep audited financials for the last five years. The business could be fined up to 5,000 AED if it fails to submit the required documents to the free zone authority or have its trade licence rejected if it fails to renew.
 

In order to comply with accepted standards, businesses must organize their documents before an audit. When your business is audited by the auditors in Dubai, you need to answer their questions. You should present the auditor with documents such as the trial balance, VAT return filings, general ledger, important business contracts, legal documents (copies of trade licenses and MoA), a fixed asset schedule with calculations of depreciation, a schedule of payables and accrued expenditures, a list of advances and prepayments, and a list of customers, suppliers and bank reconciliations, etc. Preparing the papers appropriately will make the auditing process easier for you as well as the auditor.

Chiefly, in order for an Audit Firm to be approved as an Approved Auditor and be maintained on the Approved Auditor List, the Audit Firm must be able to demonstrate to DMCCA’s satisfaction that the Audit Firm meets or otherwise complies with the following minimum requirements:

  1. The Audit Firm has an Audit Partner or Lead Auditor that has a Public Accounting Qualification (defined below) and a minimum of 10 years of public accounting experience;
  2. The Audit Firm has a valid commercial/professional trade license from a recognized competent authority within the UAE that permits the activities of auditing accounts;
  3. The Audit Firm has a physical location in the UAE;
  4. The Audit Partner has a certificate of valid accreditation from the UAE Ministry of Economy;
  5. The Audit Firm has demonstrated sufficient capacity and professional qualifications of personnel who will be providing audit services to a Member Company;
  6. Public Accounting Qualification means a professional qualification in public accounting that permits an individual to practice public accounting in the country in which the certifying accounting body is domiciled.

Documents to be kept by the DMCC entities before the annual audit

The following are the list of documents to be maintained  by each DMCC entity for the annual audits :

  • Legal Documents

The Memorandum of Association (MoA), the Articles of Association (AoA), as well as the company bylaws should be in your checklist when preparing for the audit in Dubai, UAE.

  • List of All the Bank Accounts

 A statement listing all bank accounts, including the bank name, account number, and authorized signatories should be prepared. The auditor will also need confirmation of the bank’s balances from the bank itself.  

  • Documentation of all transactions

As part of the audit, you should mention all transactions that took place at your company for a specific period. Bills and invoices should be attached to the order.

  • Company’s trial balance

The trial balance is the first thing auditors check as all the numbers in your company’s financial statements are traceable back to it.
